Der-Zor to Ottawa
commemorative march in memory of the 95th anniversary of the Armenian Genocide: Montreal to Ottawa

Hello All!

From April 21-24, 2010, ninety-five youth from Quebec and Ontario, relentlessly marched from Downtown Montreal to the Canadian Parliament in Ottawa, covering nearly 200 kilometers. Although the march got tough at some points, all of the participants courageously continued on until the very end. As we marched on through various different towns, we raised our voices, and showed the Canadian public that the Armenian youth has not forgotten the first genocide of the twentieth century, and will never forget what happened. We proved to them, that our struggle will continue until justice is served, and the whole world, including Turkey, recognizes and acknowledges the Armenian Genocide.

Throughout the march, we shared our experiences and photos with you on this blog. Since the beginning of our trek, we have had over 24,000 visitors, something that we would have never thought possible. Thank you for all of those who supported us by visiting the blog, commenting on our progress, and ultimately showing us that you cared about our mission and well-being.

The young men and women who bravely participated in the march showed the world that with their hard work, commitment, and dedication, they are ready to lead the Armenian people for years to come. We will never stop fighting, until justice is finally served.

Thank you

Ok everyone,

Last night we had the unique opportunity to speak to our AYF counterparts in Washington, who were holding a 24 hour vigil in from of the White House. We got to speak to each other about our efforts, gave each other support, and exchanged congratulatory words.

We’re now in the home stretch. We are marching from Gatineau to Ottawa. Thank you for fillowing us so far, we will be putting up more pictures later on today. Here are some photos from this morning…

We are finally in Gatineau! After a full day of walking we have arrived in our new home, a local school here in Gatineau, Quebec. The A.R.S. Ottawa “Sevan” Chapter was kind enough to volunteer their time and energy, in order to prepare our much needed dinner. We also have them to thank for our lodging at the school as well as tomorrow’s breakfast. The marchers have now eaten, and are now resting their wearied limbs, blistered feet, and sore muscles. After a good night’s sleep, we will be well rested and ready to take on the last stretch to the Canadian Parliament in Ottawa! See you all tomorrow!

Dear followers,

This morning we had a few technical difficulties with our internet connection so this post is coming a little later than planned. After a good night’s sleep, we woke up this morning flooding washrooms. Being the troopers that we are, we were able to clean up the mess quickly, packed up our belongings, and hit the road for some more marching. AS you can see in the pictures, today’s breakfast was “on the go” and was graciously provided by “Arouch”. Today’s plan is to walk from Monebello to Gatineau, Quebec. We have a long way ahead, and will update you when possible…Enjoy the pictures!

Hey all!

After a full day of walking, we have finally arrived in Montebello, Quebec! During our journey we encountered a few slight patches of rain, but our incredible organizers came prepared with ponchos which really helped out. We will all sleep in a local school gym tonight, which was nice enough to host us this everning. Enjoy the pictures and tune in tomorrow for more pictures and updates!
